E-Verify Self Check Launch
In a partnership between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA), E-Verify Self Check was launched so that individuals can check their own employment eligibility status before formally seeking employment. Self Check is a free on-line application that checks a user’s information against various Government databases to determine work eligibility in the United States. This is the first service offered directly to the U.S. workforce as part of the E-Verify Program.
HR departments beware though. Self Check is not intended as a substitute for employers to use E-Verify if they are a participant in the E-Verify program. User query results from Self Check cannot be accepted as employment eligibility verification.
E-Verify Self Check is currently available to users located in the District of Columbia, Virginia, Arizona, Idaho, Colorado, and Mississippi. Plans are to expand to 16 states in fiscal 2012 and then nationwide soon after on a rolling basis. For more information, check out the E-Verify fact sheet or try E-Verify Self Check yourself.
Arc Aspicio has been a participant in the E-Verify program since 2007.
