Arc Aspicio Prepares
Girl Scouts
Arc Aspicio recently sponsored a Girl Scout meeting for the troop to receive the Emergency Preparedness Patch (shown above). Unveiled in September 2009, the Emergency Preparedness Patch Program was developed in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security to equip Girl Scouts with skills to protect their families, friends and communities when disaster strikes.
Maryanne Waller, Arc Aspicio's Director of Talent & Operations, led the meeting and facilitated a discussion about various emergencies, the stages of disaster management, and the importance of being informed and prepared. The troop explored the contents of an emergency kit, and then Arc Aspicio provided each Girl Scout a family emergency plan (from the Ready.gov site) and flashlight to jumpstart creation of their own emergency plans and kits. The meeting was well-received by the Girl Scouts and their families inspiring them to "Get a Kit. Make a Plan. Be Informed."
