We Remember, Honor, and Teach: Wreaths Across America Community Event
At Arc Aspicio, our employees are always looking for opportunities to serve the Metropolitan DC area and receive annual volunteer hours to give back to our community. We organize events throughout the year to encourage employees to use those hours with organizations such as the National Search Dog Foundation (SDF), Courtney’s House, and the Rock Creek Conservancy.
While in-person volunteer opportunities were not as common in the pandemic, our employees have continued to be involved in the community. For example, some of our employees virtually participated in the So Others Might Eat (SOME)’s 19th Annual Trot for Hunger 5k.
This past December, our employees again participated in the annual Wreaths Across America event at Arlington National Cemetery. Wreaths Across America’s mission is to Remember, Honor, and Teach individuals about our servicemember’s sacrifice to our country. Over 150,000 wreaths were placed at Arlington National Cemetery to individually recognize those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Our employees placed 50 wreaths on fallen World War I, World War II, Vietnam War, and Korean War veteran’s headstones.
“When placing a wreath on a grave, please say the person’s name and rank to honor and thank them for their service,” a Wreaths Across America coordinator instructed. While placing a wreath on a fallen veteran’s grave, our employees said their name aloud, thanked them for their service and sacrifice, and reflected on their life.
Our volunteer events provide our employees with an opportunity to collaborate and bond over shared community interests. We value this time to connect and give back and are looking forward to sharing our future volunteer events!
