Arc Aspicio Sponsors Ninth Search Dog
Arc Aspicio Sponsors Ninth Search Dog
Arlington, VA, March 20, 2019 — Arc Aspicio sponsored their ninth search dog, Lexi, this month through the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF). SDF is a non-profit organization that trains rescue dogs and pairs them with first responders. Arc Aspicio has been sponsoring search dogs since 2011, when they first partnered with SDF.
Within the past year, SDF’s search dogs have assisted in many disasters, including the Camp Fire in Northern California, helping save lives and provide comfort to victims and their families. They are often some of the first responders to mission-critical events, such as natural disasters or terrorist attacks. Arc Aspicio is honored to sponsor Lexi, who will be a vital part of a search team one day.
“We are so proud of our long-term partnership with SDF and their ability to turn rescues into rescuers,” says Lynn Ann Casey, Chief Executive Officer. “We are very excited to sponsor Lexi and cannot wait to see how her energy and enthusiasm translate into her success as a search dog.”
Lexi is a sweet and excitable black lab found at the Humane Society of the Blacks Hills, South Dakota. Two SDF recruiters, Kellee and Tim Matthews, picked up on her potential due to her limitless energy. Upon acceptance into the program, her name was changed from Prancer to Lexi, in honor of Alexis Owing, an SDF supporter who lost her battle with cancer. Lexi easily passed her formal evaluation in California and has proven to be a star pupil in training so far.
Skylar, Arc Aspicio’s last search dog, was not able to complete training due to lumbosacral stenosis, which would have likely caused her discomfort and early retirement. Fortunately, part of SDF’s mission is finding new homes for dogs that are unable to complete their program. Skylar is being given lots of love and attention as she waits to be adopted and moved to her “fur-ever home.”
Arc Aspicio plans to continue sponsoring search dog teams as they become FEMA certified and respond to national and international disasters. The similarity in the missions of Arc Aspicio and SDF, along with a shared love of dogs, has made for a long and valuable partnership.
