ICE Launches
Secure Communities
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Secure Communities program has been identifying aliens for deportation when they are arrested for crimes by police in 48 communities since March of this year with some dramatic results. In one jail in Fairfax, VA, the Secure Communities program has led to deportation orders for 200 of the jail's 1,300 inmates.
The Obama administration is rapidly expanding Secure Communities with hopes of implementing the program in all local jails. Experts believe this expansion could lead to a tenfold increase in the number of criminal aliens identified for deportation.
The Secure Communities program is another example of the tremendous effect that results from information sharing between the Department of Homeland Security and state and local law enforcement.
